La Belle au bois dormant représente l’apogée du ballet classique, la danse s’y affirme comme art majeur.
En effet, La Belle au bois dormant de Tchaïkovski, chorégraphié par Marius Petipa d’après le conte de Perrault et des frères Grimm, fait partie des ballets classiques les plus populaires. Combinant magie de l’argument et virtuosité des rôles, il est repris aujourd’hui dans la plupart des grandes compagnies classiques.
La partition de Tchaïkovski, dans sa ferveur et sa flamboyance, offre un superbe écrin au faste de la chorégraphie, aux ensembles, aux multiples variations, aux danses de caractère, et des pas de deux ensorcelants au premier rang desquels le grand pas de deux final.
